James A. Priest, Sr., 87, of Watertown, NY passed away October 2, 2017 at home with his wife by his side.

Born December 5, 1929 in Watertown, the son of the late Kenneth (Edna) Priest and Lyla (David) Gregor. He graduated in 1947 from Watertown High School.

After high school, Mr. Priest joined the United States Army’s 328th Comm/Recon Division as an interceptor, stationed in Bad Aibling, Germany during the Korean War. He then worked at the United States Postal Service for over 30 years and was U.S. Postmaster in Carthage, NY upon retirement.

Mr. Priest was married to his devoted wife Catherine Bickel on August 4, 1951 in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. He was a lifetime member of the Blue Lodge Media Temple Shriners, a member of the Rotary Club of Carthage, a member of the First Presbyterian Church, and was the former treasure for the Watertown Sportsman Club.

Mr. Priest enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing, camping, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Catherine; two daughters, Carol Priest, of Henderson and Kristine Sullivan of Watertown; a son, Peter Priest, of Watertown; four grandchildren, Jonathan Sullivan, Katelyn (James) Hunter, Michele Priest, Lindsay (Daniel) Herron; and four great-grandsons.

He was predeceased by his son, James A. Priest, Jr., and infant daughter, Cindy.

Arrangements are with Cleveland Funeral Home, Watertown. There will be no calling hours and burial will be at the convenience of the family.
