CAPE VINCENT, NY – Herbert Earl Christiana, 78, of Cape Vincent, passed away early Tuesday morning, February 13, 2018, at the Samaritan Keep Home.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Cleveland Funeral Home, Cape Vincent.
Herbert was born on October 5, 1939 in Kingston, NY to the late Earl and Catherine Benkert Christiana. After graduating high school, Herb worked at Rotron in Woodstock, NY as a maintenance supervisor for 22 years. On April 23, 1961, Herb married Lauretta Dorothy Mills. He loved the Thousand Islands and St. Lawrence River and left Rotron in 1982 and moved from Stone Ridge, NY to Cape Vincent with his family. Herb, along with his wife Lauretta, owned and operated Sunny Bank Restaurant for 24 years from 1986-2006. He was an excellent baker and cook, making everything from scratch. He also drove school bus for Thousand Island Central School, retiring in 2007. Herb enjoyed driving his motor home to camp in Florida throughout the winters. Herb enjoyed watching sports and was a Harry Gant Nascar fan and enjoyed watching the NY Mets. He liked to spend his free-time woodworking, building, fishing and spending time around the river. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and celebrating holidays together.
Surviving are his loving and devoted wife of 56 years, Lauretta, as well as two children, a daughter, Darlene Vaughn (Richard Bice) and a son, David Earl Christiana, all of Cape Vincent. Two grandchildren, Staci Vaughn-Radley (Jarrod Radley) of Cape Vincent; and Mark Vaughn, Jr. of Saratoga Springs, NY.
Funeral services will be held in the spring in Cape Vincent along with burial in Sand Bay Cemetery, date and time will be forthcoming. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cape Vincent Ambulance Fund, PO Box 609. Cape Vincent, NY 13618.
