A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 18, at First Baptist Church of Three Mile Bay with the reverends Douglas King and Allen Bassette officiating. A calling hour will be held 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, Sept.18, at the church prior to the service.
THREE MILE BAY, N.Y. — Catherine S. Weiler, 51, of Three Mile Bay, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Sept. 15, while surrounded by the love of her family.
Beloved daughter of Sigrid and Ted Utess, Cathy was born in Watertown on April 13, 1958. She graduated in 1976 from Lyme Central School, and from Cornell University in 1980 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Natural Resources. During her time at Cornell, she worked as a teaching assistant and administration assistant in the Department of Natural Resources. She also spent summers as a laboratory and field technician at Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest in New Hampshire.
After graduation, she worked as Research Technician and Field Investigator for Cornell University in the Catskill Mountains and throughout New York State, then moved to San Diego, California, were she worked as a Laboratory Technician for Quidell Laboratories. In 1985, she moved to Arizona to attend graduate school at Arizona State University, where she was a Teaching Assistant in the Department of Geography and Regional Planning.
Surviving are her parents, Sigrid and Ted Utess; a brother, William J. Weiler and his wife, Yvonne E. Weiler; a sister: Ellen M. Wiseman and her husband, William E. Wiseman; a nephew, Benjamin W. Wiseman; a niece, Jessica S. Wiseman; and many aunts, uncles and cousins in Germany and France.
Her maternal grandparents, Rosl and Heinrich Bölz of Hessental, Germany, died before her.
A devoted daughter and sister, she was a friend to all who knew her and will be remembered for her generous heart and adventurous spirit.
She loved nature, sailing, cross-country skiing, traveling, and especially her family.
Donations may be given in her memory to the Three Mile Bay Baptist Church.
