A funeral service will be 11 .m. Saturday, April 10, at First United Methodist Church, Watertown, with Rev. Joyce Woodcock, officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Fairview Cemetery, Canton. Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 9, at the Cleveland Funeral Home, Watertown. WATERTOWN, N.Y. — James H. Nash, 88, formerly of Canton and Massena died April 3, at Samaritan Medical Center.
Born June 5, 1921, in Canton the son of Howard and Vincie Brundage, he graduated in 1938 from Canton High and attended St. Lawrence University, Canton.
Mr. Nash served in the Army medical corps during World War II, seeing duty in the Mediterranean theater of operations.
He married Charlotte E. Moore on April 11, 1942, at the First United Methodist Church, Canton, with the Rev. Walter S. Dobbie officiating. Mrs. Nash died May 15, 2004.
Mr. Nash went to work for the Johnson Newspaper Corp. in March 1946 as an announcer at WMSA radio in Massena. After 26 years in Massena, he transferred to the former WWNY radio in Watertown in 1972. The station became WTNY in 1980. Mr. Nash retired from WTNY on July 1, 1986, as a sales account executive, completing a 40-year career in broadcast media.
He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Watertown. He was a qualified lay speaker and past president of the Greater Watertown Council of Churches. Mr. Nash was also a past chaplain of American Legion Post 61 and Jefferson County American Legion.
He was a past commander of Post 61, Past President of the Watertown Kiwanis Club, and past lieutenant governor of the St. Lawrence Division of Kiwanis.
Surviving are a son and his wife, Ronald and Linda Nash, Massena; a daughter and her husband, Gloria and William Jones, San Diego, Calif.; a brother, Dr. Allen Nash, Ga.; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Two brothers, Dr. Ralph Nash, and David Nash in childhood died before him.
