A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 13, at
St. John’s Episcopal Church, Cape Vincent, with the Reverend Mother
Nancy Betz officiating. A reception will follow the service at the church. 

Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 12, at Cleveland Funeral home, Cape Vincent.

WATERTOWN, N.Y.  —  Bernice M. Humphrey, 90, of 29079 Route 12, formerly of Aubrey Courts, Cape Vincent, died Thursday, March 4, at the home of her son.  

Born Aug. 19, 1919, in the town of Worth, the daughter of Mark and Carlotta Kenfield Macklen, she graduated from Adams High School and nursing school at the House of the Good Samaritan.  

She worked as a nursing supervisor at the House of the Good Samaritan for many years, retiring in 1983.   

She married Harold Humphrey on Oct. 27, 1943, in the town of Worth with Rev. Coyne Gifford officiating. He died March 3, 1994. 

She was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Cape Vincent, and was a member and past chairman of the Alter Guild there.  

Mrs. Humphrey was a member, past matron, and district deputy of the Order of the Eastern Star, Brownville chapter.  

Surviving is a son and his wife, John and Karen Humphrey, Watertown; a sister and her husband, Ginny and Falconer Jones, Naples, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Tiffany, Jennifer, Casey, Caitlin, Daniel, Shanna, and Kristen; three great-grandchildren, Morgan, Paige, and Claire; and several nieces and nephews.   

Two brothers, Bernard and Baxter Macklen, died before her. 

Donations may be made in her name to Hospice of Jefferson County, 425 Washington St, Watertown, N.Y.
