WATERTOWN, N.Y. —
Born Sept. 21, 1921, in Watertown, the son of Clarence and Helen Whitford Hoke, he graduated in 1940 from Watertown High School.
He worked at JC Penney and the Agricultural Insurance Company. He served in the United States Army Air Coprs during World War II from 1942 to 1945, with the rank of corporal, as an aircraft mechanic in the Atlantic Theater on Puerto Rico. After service he was employed at New York Telephone for 37 years, retiring in 1983.
He married Ruth Newman on Nov. 6, 1949, at the Canton Methodist Church with Rev. Walter S. Dobbie, officiating. Mrs. Hoke died in May 2000 in Lakeland, Fla., where they wintered for 17 years.
He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Watertown; a life member of the Mason’s, Orient Lodge No. 238, F & AM, Copenhagen; member of the Jefferson-Lewis Square Club; and a life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
Surviving are two daughters, Linda Marra and husband, Tony, Watertown, and Sandra Hoke and husband, Thomas Word, Lodi, Wisc.; a grandson, Eric Marra and wife, Kathryn, Baltimore, Md.; and two nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Keith Hoke.
A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Friday, April 1, at Asbury United Methodist Church, Watertown, with Rev. Leon Schilling officiating. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery.
