A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, August 9, at the United Church of Cape Vincent, with Rev. Mark Pierce and Bradley Ringer co-officiating. 

Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery Cape Vincent, with full military honors.

CAPE VINCENT, N.Y.  —  David S. Blodgett, 67, of 451 E. Broadway Ave., died Tuesday, Aug. 3, at his home under the care of his family and Hospice of Jefferson County.  

Born Feb. 1, 1943, in Watertown, the son of David A. and Margaret Borland Blodgett, he graduated from University of Massachusetts and received his MBA from the University of Oregon.   

Mr. Blodgett served in the Army from 1965 to 1994, retiring as a colonel.

Colonel Blodgett served two tours in Vietnam.  He was a Ranger Instructor at Ft. Benning, Ga., and was later assigned as executive officer to the 2nd Ranger Battalion at Ft. Lewis, Wash. He was assigned to help develop and be the first director of the Army’s BCTP at Ft. Leavenworth, Kan. Col Blodgett commanded a Brigade in the 2nd Division at Camp Hovey, South Korea. His final assignment was as Chief of Staff to the 3rd Army in Ft. McPherson, Ga.. Colonel Blodgett received many decorations and medals including, two Silver Stars, three Legion of Merit, three Bronze Star Medals, two Bronze Star Medals with “V” Device, and a Purple Heart.   

After retiring in 1994, he worked in the defense industry with his final position as Vice President for S.Y. Coleman Co. in Arlington, Va. He retired in 2006 and moved to Cape Vincent.   

He married Claudia Quick on May 15, 1985, in Tucson, Ariz.  

Surviving are his wife, Claudia, Cape Vincent; two sons, Mark Blodgett, Naperville Ill., Lt. Col. Keith Blodgett and his wife Diane, Mesa, Ariz..; two daughters, Robin Blodgett, Indiana, and Courtney Blodgett, Lynchburg, Va.; grandchildren, Moira, Andrea, Erik and Ian; two brothers, John and his wife Ruth-Ellen Blodgett, Cape Vincent, and James and his wife, Kathy Blodgett, Yelm, Wash.; a sister, Sarah, and her husband, Duane Hughes, Cape Vincent; many nieces and nephews.
