WATERTOWN, N.Y. — Paula Isabelle Duke Inglehart, 91, died Tuesday, Aug. 16, at her home on Ten Eyck Street, under the care of her family and Hospice of Jefferson County. She had been a resident of Watertown for 64 years.
Born Oct. 1, 1919, in Duke Center, Pa., daughter of Paul C. and Ruth Bunker Duke, she was a graduate of the Madeira School, Dana Hall, Ogontz Junior College and Smith College, class of 1943.
She had spent her summers at the Duke familys summer home on the St. Lawrence River before her marriage.
She married George G. Inglehart on Sept. 6, 1947, at her family summer home on Grenadier Island. Her husband, a former state Supreme Court judge, preceded her in death on April 6, 2004.
She was a homemaker, raising a large family, and known for her hospitality. She was an avid gardener, a photographer with a love for sunrise and sunset scenes, and an accomplished pianist.
She had a deep love for the Thousand Island region, spending summers at the Inglehart family home on Wellesley Island. She was a long time member of the Grenader Island Country Club, which was co-founded by the Duke Family. She was also a member of the Watertown Twig.
Surviving are two daughters and their husbands, Rhea I. Arnot and Helmut Jenkner, Baltimore, Md., and Wellesley Island, N.Y., and Marjorie I. Hendry and Robin Hendry, Oneida, N.Y., and Tar Island, Ontario; her son, George G. Inglehart III, Watertown; her sons and their wives, David D. and Donna Inglehart, Habron, Maine, and Thomas B. and Melinda Inglehart, Wellesley Island, N.Y.; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and a younger sister, Madeleine Duke Copp, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Two brother, Charles and Paul C. Duke, and a sister, Patricia A. Duke, died before her.
Calling hours will be 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, at Cleveland Funeral Home, 404 Sherman St., Watertown.
A private family burial will be in Brookside Cemetery, Watertown.
