Ola A. Payne Fitzgerald

CAPE VINCENT, N.Y.  —  Ola A. Payne Fitzgerald, 103, of Real Street, died Sunday, Nov. 14, at Samaritan Keep Nursing Home, Watertown.

Born March 12, 1907, on Wolfe Island Ontario, Canada, the daughter of Edward and Hannah Casey Payne, she attended schools on Wolfe Island and in Kingston. She came to Watertown in 1925 and graduated from the Watertown School of Commerce. 

She worked in a secretarial position at the Colonial Bus Co. for six years. 

She married Lewis D. Fitzgerald on June 9, 1930, at Sacred Heart Church, Wolfe Island. The couple own and operated a farm on the Valley Road in the Town of Cape Vincent, retiring in 1984 and moving to the Real Street address. Mr. Fitzgerald died Feb. 23, 1991.  

Mrs. Fitzgerald was a member of St. Vincent of Paul Church, Cape Vincent, where she was a member of the choir and taught religious classes for 35 years.  She was a member of the Alter and Rosary Society, Cape Vincent Improvement League, Cape Vincent Chamber of Commerce and the Lighthouse Historical Society.

Surviving are two sons and their wives, Maurice and Sheila Fitzgerald, Cape Vincent, and John and Carmela Fitzgerald, Syracuse; a daughter, Sister Mary Bethany, S.S.J., Canton; 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and five great great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. 

Seven sisters and four brothers all died before her.

A funeral Mass will be said 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17, at St. Vincent of Paul Church, Cape Vincent, with Father Pierre Aubin officiating. Burial will be in St. Vincent of Paul Cemetery. Calling Hours will be 9 to 10:45 a.m. Wednesday at the church.  

Arrangements are with the Cleveland Funeral Home, Cape Vincent.

Donations may be given in her name to Cape Vincent Ambulance Fund or St. Vincent Of Paul Society, Cape Vincent.
