A funeral Mass will be said 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 20, at Holy Family Church, Watertown, with Father Stephen Murray officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery, Watertown. Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, at Cleveland Funeral Home, Watertown.
WATERTOWN, N.Y. — Elizabeth “Rita” Cheney, 84, formerly of Centennial Apartments, 1010 Washington St., and 1227 Madison Ave, died Saturday, Nov. 14, at Samaritan Keep Home.
Born Nov. 2, 1925, in the Bronx, the daughter of Edward J. and Florence C. Tuite Moore, she graduated high schools in the Bronx.
She was employed first with Carstairs Distillers, in the Cardex Dept. and then with Prudential Insurance Co. Mortgage Loan and Real Estate Office in the accounting department and as a stenographer.
She married Edward P. Cheney at Our Lady of Mercy Church in the Bronx on Feb. 14, 1953. They resided in Norfolk, Va., until 1959 and then moved to Saranac Lake, until her husband retired from the Navy in 1962. They then moved to Watertown. Mr. Cheney died Oct. 28, 1989.
Mrs. Cheney was a communicant, of Holy Family Church, Watertown.
Surviving are two sons and their wives, Dennis and Linda, Texas, and Thomas and Cynthia, Hawaii; and two grandchildren.
A brother, John Moore, and a sister, Eilene Griffin, died before her.
