Funeral Service will be 11 a.m. Friday, May 28, at Chaumont Presbyterian Church, Chaumont, with Rev. Rachel Roberts, officiating. Burial will be in Old Cedar Grove Cemetery, Chaumont. Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 27, at the Becker Cleveland Funeral Home, Chaumont. 


CHAUMONT, N.Y.  —  Doris E. Bevens, 93, of County Route 125, died Monday, May 24, at Mercy Healthcare Center of Northern New York, Watertown.  

Born Dec. 5, 1916, in Sackets Harbor, the daughter of George L. and Edith Washburn Hess, she attended Sackets Harbor schools.  

She married Timothy G. Bevens on Aug. 30, 1936, in Brownville by Rev. Herbert Harrison. Mr. Bevens died July 8, 1990. 

Mrs. Bevens was a mother and home maker, and love her gardens, birds and animals.  

She was a member of the Chaumont Presbyterian Church and an elder there. She was also a member of the Chaumont Bayview Club.  

Surviving are two sons, Roy and James Bevens, both of Chaumont; a daughter, Sharon Carr and her fiancée, David Timerman, LaFargeville; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and a great great-granddaughter; several nieces and nephews. 

Eight brothers and sisters died before her. 

Donation maybe given in her name to the Three Mile Bay Ambulance Fund, Three Mile Bay, NY  13693.
