WATERTOWN, N.Y. — Dorothy W. Barnes, 91, formerly of Adams Center, died Thursday, April 1, at Mercy of Northern New York where she had been a resident since November 2002.
Born Aug. 10, 1918, in Watertown, the daughter of Milo and Marion Davidson Hudson, she graduated from Watertown Schools and attended nursing school for two years.
She married James F. Barnes on June 12, 1943, at the First United Methodist Church in Watertown. He died Feb. 24, 1992.
Mrs. Barnes worked as a LPN at Whispering Pines in Watertown and later at Val Haven Nursing Home in Mannsville.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Watertown, the Order of the Eastern Star, and the Adams Center Grange.
Surviving are two sons and their wives, Terry and Joyce Barnes, Triangle, Va., and Ned and Mary Barnes, West Monroe, N.Y.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Betty Barnes, Adams Center, and Wilma and Richard Petrie, Adams Center; eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
A daughter, Judy Ann Barnes, a brother, Richard Hudson, and a sister, Annabelle Switzer, all died before her.
A funeral service will be held 11 .am. Wednesday, April 7, at Cleveland Funeral Home, Watertown, with Rev. Dorothy Schneider, officiating. Burial will be at a later date in North Watertown Cemetery.
Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, at the Cleveland Funeral Home, Watertown.
